Somatic Therapy
Fort Worth + Texas
WITH JULIE CHAHAL LPC, SEP
You can handle the responsibility, solve the problem, and stay steady for everyone else while your own body stays braced underneath it all. Your jaw tightens before the difficult conversation. Your shoulders never seem to fully relax. Your stomach drops when something feels uncertain. You finish the day exhausted, but your body still will not let you settle. Somatic therapy helps address the stress, pressure, and protective patterns your body continues to carry, even when your mind understands exactly what is happening.
WHEN YOUR BODY LEARNS TO STAY READY
Your nervous system adapts to what you experience repeatedly.
If being prepared helped you avoid mistakes, if staying useful helped you maintain connection, or if pushing through helped you keep functioning, your body may have learned that slowing down was not safe.
That protection can continue even when the original pressure is gone.
Somatic therapy helps your system recognize that it has more options now.
WHAT THIS OFTEN LOOKS LIKE
• Tension you cannot fully release
• A body that feels braced or guarded
• Difficulty relaxing, even when nothing is wrong
• Feeling numb, shut down, or disconnected
• Strong reactions that seem to happen before you can think
• Feeling thrown off in relationships
• Carrying pressure in your chest, stomach, shoulders, or throat
WHY TALKING ABOUT IT HASN’T BEEN ENOUGH
Talking can help you understand what happened.
But understanding does not always change what your body learned to protect you from.
Your system may have learned to tighten, brace, freeze, scan, shut down, or stay ready.
Those responses may have made sense at one time.
Now they may be getting in the way of feeling present, steady, and connected to yourself.
More capacity and choice
More flexibility
Greater ease setting boundaries
More intimacy in relationships
More confidence in yourself
A renewed sense of joy
Better sleep and digestion
The body does not have to carry so much anymore

MY APPROACH TO SOMATIC THERAPY
1. Identify the Pattern and What It Is Protecting
We focus on the tension, sensation, or bracing in the body and what the response may be trying to prevent or protect you from.
2. Work Where the Pattern Was Formed
Using Somatic Experiencing®, we work with the brain, body, and nervous system at the level where the protective response developed.
3. Create More Choice in Connection
As the pattern shifts, you have more space to respond, connect, rest, and move through your life without the same automatic protection taking over.

MEET JULIE CHAHAL
I know this work from the inside, too. I've done my own somatic work around chronic tension patterns, learning to stay grounded during conflict, and understanding the ways my nervous system learned to protect me.
I don't believe symptoms are random. I'm interested in understanding what those patterns have been trying to accomplish, not simply helping them disappear.
My work combines Somatic Experiencing®, neuroscience, subconscious pattern work, and years of clinical experience to help people create lasting change beneath the surface.
I've trained with some of the country's leading Somatic Experiencing® practitioners and continue to deepen my understanding of the nervous system every year. I believe the best therapists continue doing their own work because we can only take clients as far as we've been willing to go ourselves.
If this resonates, I'm glad you're here.
