Somatic Therapy in Fort Worth

You can lead the meeting, solve the problem, and keep everyone else calm while your own body stays braced underneath it all. Your jaw tightens before the difficult conversation. Your stomach drops when a client seems disappointed. You finish the workday exhausted, but your system still will not let you settle. Somatic therapy helps address the stress, pressure, and protective patterns your body continues to carry, even when your mind understands exactly what is happening.

WHEN YOUR BODY LEARNS TO STAY READY

Your nervous system adapts to what you experience repeatedly.

If being prepared helped you avoid mistakes, if staying useful helped you maintain connection, or if pushing through helped you keep functioning, your body may have learned that slowing down was not safe.

That protection can continue even when the original pressure is gone.

Somatic therapy helps your system recognize that it has more options now.

WHAT THIS OFTEN LOOKS LIKE

This may show up as:

• Tension you cannot fully release
• A body that feels braced or guarded
• Difficulty relaxing, even when nothing is wrong
• Feeling numb, shut down, or disconnected
• Strong reactions that seem to happen before you can think
• Feeling thrown off in relationships
• Carrying pressure in your chest, stomach, shoulders, or throat

You may understand the pattern.

But your body may still be living from it.

WHY TALKING ABOUT IT HASN’T BEEN ENOUGH

Talking can help you understand what happened.

But understanding does not always change what your body learned to do in order to protect you.

Your system may have learned to tighten, brace, freeze, scan, shut down, or stay ready.

Those responses may have made sense at one time.

Now they may be getting in the way of feeling present, steady, and connected to yourself.

Somatic therapy brings the body into the work.

We slow down and pay attention to what is happening in real time: the tension, the numbness, the activation, the impulse to pull away, the pressure to keep going.

As your system begins to shift, many clients notice they feel:

• More settled in their body
• Less reactive
• More present in relationships
• Clearer about what they feel and need
• Less driven by old protective patterns

This is not about forcing yourself to relax.

It is about helping your body realize it no longer has to hold so much.

HOW SOMATIC THERAPY HELPS

MY APPROACH TO SOMATIC THERAPY

Illustration representing the first step of somatic therapy: identifying the reaction or pattern that keeps repeating

1. Identify the Pattern and What It Is Protecting

We focus on the tension, sensation, or bracing in the body and what the response may be trying to prevent or protect you from.

2. Work Where the Pattern Was Formed

Using Somatic Experiencing®, we work with the brain, body, and nervous system at the level where the protective response developed.

3. Create More Choice in Connection

As the pattern shifts, you have more space to respond, connect, rest, and move through your life without the same automatic protection taking over.

  • Through somatic work, Julie helped me recognize and heal the patterns that were keeping me stagnant.  After each session, I noticed a distinct shift in myself that truly transformed my life, my relationships, and my business.  I am lighter and more confident after working with Julie, and recommend her highly!

WHAT THIS WORK IS LIKE

This is therapy that works with the whole system, not just the part of you that can explain what happened.

We are not only talking through the problem or analyzing why you feel the way you feel.

We are paying attention to what your body is doing in the moment. Where it tightens. Where it protects. Where it shuts down. Where it still feels like it has to hold on.

From there, I tailor the work to what your system needs. I blend Somatic Experiencing®, advanced EMDR training, and neuroscience-based and subconscious pattern work to help access the deeper patterns your body has been carrying.

Sessions are 90 minutes so we have time to work beneath the surface and address what talk therapy alone has not been able to shift.

Somatic therapy is available in person in Fort Worth and virtually across Texas.
